TRIF AND THE FUN O VICS

March 15th, 2014. Leeds, UK.

For one night only, Trif and the Fun O Vics rocked, and the world listened.

Now, 10 years later, the world can finally look back on this seminal moment in Leeds music history and bask in all its glory.

This was my leaving party before moving to Canada, before flying to Toronto on a one-way ticket. To mark my departure and send me off in style, my friends and I decided to put on a show by performing covers of 50s and 60s rock’n’roll tunes that we liked. After only 3 rehearsals (and one acoustic jam that turned into a piss-up) we were set for the stage, me with an iPad for the song lyrics that I hadn’t yet learned. We were fully winging it in every way, but it was exciting.

The musicianship on display - Lauren Ballinger on keyboard, Liam Ballinger on bass, Ryan Styslow on guitar, all held together by Paul Brown on drums - was incredible given the 3 or 4 practices we'd had. And the singing... Well, I'll let you be the judge of that. Was I in tune? No, probably not. Did I actually sing any songs? No, I shouted into a microphone. Was it fun and did we entertain them? HELL YES, we did!

And I hope it brings a smile to your face now, too.
